What's A Girl To Do??

Have any of you purchased those little 100 calorie packs of...well, just about everything. I have.

For me they are nothing but a convenience, I'll admit. Nice for taking my lunch to work, carrying in my purse or the car.

I know, I know. They are more expensive and create a great deal of packaging waste per item.

So here is my dilemma.

I can't buy the individual packages of Cheezits because they create too much packaging waste.

I can't use ziplock bags to portion out the big boxes because ziplock bags are evil.

Little plastic containers are...well...plastic.

If I buy a big box I rarely finish it before they are stale. Thus creating waste when I toss uneaten food.

Do I have to give up cheezits to save the planet?

Where will the madness end!!!

I have read a lot about the "seal-a-Meal" machine that allows you to take a big portion and break it down into smaller portions. Freeze them and eat them later as needed.
I am about junked out. I have cleaned two houses full of stuff and am fed up with it. The really bad news is that none of the junk was mine and I know I have twice as much junk as I moved to deal with here at home. Oh well, Rock Chalk. MUD

What about small glass jars? I'm thinking of a jelly jar or spice jar or other jar that is just big enough for the small number of Cheezits you want to eat.

But here's the thing. Don't Cheezits come in a big ol' plastic bag? Maybe you could find something crunchy and salty in a bulk bin. Do you have a local natural foods store that sells dry goods in bulk bins where you bring your own bags or containers?

Kudos for thinking about these issues.

Realistic me says buy a few good pieces of Tupperware but plan on using them for life. I have some that are probably 35 years old! Seriously. My old cereal bowls I used to eat out of as a kid. My mom put them in a garage sale and I snatched them up.

Ebay? freecycle? garage sale? You wouldn't have to buy new. Reuse.

It's the crappy stuff from the dollar store (or wherever) that we end up throwing away or trying to recycle.
